Dr Ridzwan Namazie is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in Upper Limb, Hand and Trauma surgery. He has a public appointment with Metro North Health working at Redcliffe Hospital and Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (STARS). He is Deputy Director of Surgery (Orthopaedics) at STARS.

Dr Namazie is originally from Malaysia. He was awarded the prestigious Public Services Scholarship to study medicine in Ireland where he graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway. He completed his Basic Surgical Training there and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons.

His travels then brought him to New Zealand where he met his wife and he was selected for the highly competitive New Zealand Orthopaedic Association training programme. He completed this in 2018 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics). He then worked briefly as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in New Zealand before undertaking subspecialist training.

He started this journey with an Observorship with Professor Alessandro Castagna at Istituto Clinico Humanitas, Milan before coming to Queensland to participate in two Australian Orthopaedic Association accredited Fellowships. He did an Upper Limb and Hand Fellowship at Gold Coast University Hospital followed by the Brisbane Shoulder Arthroscopy and Arthoplasty Fellowship.

Dr Namazie takes a keen interest in medical education being involved in the teaching of orthopaedic trainees, junior doctors, medical students and allied health professionals. During his time as a Fellow in Gold Coast he was awarded the position of Senior Lecturer, Griffith’s University. Dr Namazie is actively involved with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, holding an appointment as a member of the Asia-Pacific Committee.

He is also actively involved in medical research and previously held an appointments as a Clinical Research Fellow, STARS and was an Industry Fellow with the Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research (QUASR) based at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He has published a book chapter, multiple papers and presented at many meetings at the local, national and international level. Dr Namazie has received recognition for his research, most recently being awarded the Linscheid-Dobyns Excellence in Wrist Surgery Award by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
